Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark reported two men were arrested on burglary charges after police executed a search warrant at a Great Bend residence on Thursday, Jan. 9. In a separate case, a drug arrest was made Thursday following a traffic stop in town.

The Great Bend Police Department detectives on Wednesday began investigating a report of a burglary that occurred in the 300 block of 3rd Street, Haulmark stated in the news release.

“During the investigation, it was discovered that video captured a vehicle and trailer occupied by two males, who were observed taking items from the residence. While investigating the incident, a Great Bend Police detective observed the trailer that was used to transport the stolen items parked in an alley behind an address in the 1400 block of 21st St.” Haulmark went on to say the detective later observed a video that showed the suspect vehicle parked in front of a residence on 21st Street.

Great Bend Police officers and detectives executed a search warrant at the residence on 21st Street on Thursday and recovered items that were allegedly stolen during the burglary, Haulmark reported. “Illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia were also located at the time the search warrant was executed and will be sent to the Barton County Attorney for review and potential charges. The recovered property was returned to the owner.”

Luis Angel Sepulveda-Zubiate, age 26, was at the residence when officers arrived. He was arrested and charged with burglary. He was booked into the Barton County Jail and released that day after posting a $20,000 surety bond. A second resident, Luis Carlos Sepulveda, age 60, arrived on scene while the search warrant was being executed. He was also arrested and charged with burglary and booked into the Barton County Jail with bond set at $20,000.

The second case in Haulmark’s news release started with a traffic stop around midnight (around 12:03 a.m.) on Thursday. A GBPD officer stopped a vehicle in the 4900 block of 10th St. for an alleged traffic violation. During the stop, GBPD K-9 Niko was deployed and indicated to the presence of illegal narcotics. During a search of the vehicle, suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were located. The driver, Daniel Lee Chapman, age 50, was arrested and booked into the Barton County Jail on charges of distribution of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and making an improper turn.
