LARNED — A Larned man is in custody on charges in connection with a fatal shooting in rural Larned Friday afternoon.
At approximately 5:11 p.m., the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to assist the Larned Emergency Medical Service with a shooting in the 1200 block of K-19 South near Larned.
Pawnee County Attorney Douglas McNett reported that the PCSO, Larned Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and Pawnee County EMS responded to the scene, where they discovered a male gunshot victim. The individual was transported to Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
The Pawnee County Sheriff requested the Kansas Bureau of Investigation assist with the investigation. KBI special agents processed the crime scene and a formal autopsy has been ordered.
Michael Reynolds, 67, of Larned, was taken into custody at the scene without incident on preliminary charges of intentional murder in the second degree and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The PCSO announced it will not be providing any additional information on the incident prior to a formal charge decision. The KBI investigation is ongoing, and a formal press release is expected from that agency at a later time.
