Car collides with trailer on I-70 in Russell County

Two teenagers were taken to Russell Regional Hospital on Tuesday after a vehicular crash on I-70, 7.4 miles west of U.S. 281 in Russell County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports their injuries appeared to be minor.

The crash occurred at 11:15 a.m. when a westbound 2004 Dodge Neon in the passing lane caught up to another vehicle, moved back into the driving lane and struck the rear trailer of a Kenworth semi.

The Dodge was driven by Christopher T. Ford, 18, from Hillsboro, Mo., and his passenger was Gage L. Ojile, 18, from Arnold, Mo. Both were wearing seat belts.

The semi driver was Frederick A. Mendoza, 58, from Tulsa, Okla. He was also wearing a seat belt and had no apparent injuries.
