As residents across Kansas begin digging out from the first winter storm of 2025, and temperatures are expected to remain frigid, safety is more important than ever.

Following are winter safety tips from Kansas Gas Service:

• Never use your stove or oven for home heating.

• Make sure furnace air intake is clear, and vents and flues are unblocked to prevent carbon monoxide from entering the home.

• Be careful when removing snow and ice near natural gas meters, vents and flues to avoid damage.

• Keep cabinet doors open, especially on exterior walls, to prevent frozen water pipes.
