Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library!

Looking for something fun to do today? Thursday afternoon (Oct. 12) from 4 to 5 p.m., kids can come say hi to Glenn and practice reading to Luna, our local Pet Partner. She loves listening to stories and getting lots of pets. Sign in at the Children’s Desk to get started. The local Crochet Club meets at 4 p.m. by the movies. Those of all ages and skill levels can chat and work on your projects! Adults who need another creative outlet after the club wraps up can come to our Adult Craft to make your own Scrabble Coasters at 6 p.m.

Teens who want to join a tabletop campaign but don’t have a lot of time can try our 3-part mini-series this semester! Visit greatbendpl.info/teens to sign up. Those who don’t get a spot as a player will be put on the wait list. Any teens are welcome to come watch as part of the audience (no registration required)! The first session is Friday, Oct. 13 from 3:45 to 7 p.m.

Observe the Annular Eclipse with us this Saturday starting at 11 a.m. We’ll have glasses for safely viewing the eclipse (first come, first served) on our front lawn. Later that afternoon be sure to stop by our stall at the Fall Family Fest at the courthouse square from 3 to 6 p.m. to learn about some of the services we have to offer our community. Spin our prize wheel and make a small craft while you’re there!

Next Tuesday, Oct. 17, is packed full of events, starting with our regular Story Time at 10:30 a.m., followed by Tech Tuesday at 11 a.m. Shanna Long from the Center for Counseling will be here to teach us how to focus on YOU by working on self-regulation, calming, relaxing, and mindfulness skills while utilizing games, crafts, and more at 4 p.m. At the same time, teens can join us for a scary movie and popcorn in the Teen Spot. In the evening, those who read “Gideon the Ninth” by Tamsyn Muir can come discuss the title at this month’s Open Book Club Meeting at 7 p.m.

Along with our usual Crochet Club and Read to Luna events at 4 p.m. next Thursday, Oct. 19, we also have our October Teen Manga & Anime Club Meeting. Join us in the Teen Spot from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. to watch and discuss Nagabe’s “The Girl from the Other Side.” Afterwards, we’ll have a candy hunt and tell ghost stories!

Our annual Friends of the Library Book Sale is almost upon us! Find titles to fill out your personal library, starting Friday, Oct. 20, during operating hours. The sale will be open the following Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
