With another round of bitter cold weather anticipated, Live Like Jesus Today Ministries plans to open a warming station on Sunday afternoon. Starting at 5 p.m. on Jan. 19, people can come to the Anchor Room at the Central Kansas Dream Center, 2100 Broadway Ave., Great Bend. Use the east entrance off of Williams Street.
Buzz Birney with LLJT Ministries said there will be beds and meals for anyone who needs shelter from the cold. The warming station will be open 24 hours a day.
The Great Bend High School Class of 1985 is among the groups that donate hot food. The last time the warming shelter opened they served 12 people, plus the volunteers. For Sunday, they plan to bring spaghetti and chili.
The overnight low temperature Sunday is expected to be 3 degrees Fahrenheit and it could dip to -2 on Monday. Temperatures aren’t expected to be above freezing until Wednesday.
