The United Way of Central Kansas (UWCK) bids a heartfelt farewell to esteemed board members Mark and Leslie Mingenback and Carol Dema, all of whom have played pivotal roles in the organization since their involvement began in 2002 and 2003, respectively.

Mark Mingenback, who served as both President and Vice-President during his tenure, demonstrated unwavering dedication to UWCK. Instrumental in expanding the coverage of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Mark also showcased his emcee skills at events and played a critical role in developing new funding sources for the organization. His impact and leadership have left an indelible mark on the growth of UWCK.

Carol Dema, a force behind the scenes, was the driving force behind the annual Kickoff event for many years. Her creative vision and meticulous attention to detail in developing themes and executing spectacular event spaces have been instrumental in making the Kickoff event a resounding success.

Leslie Mingenback has also been an integral part of the Kickoff, supporting Carol in every aspect of the Kickoff event. She was always giving of her time, volunteering countless hours to various programs and initiatives of United Way.

Charell Owings, UWCK Executive Director expressed gratitude, saying, “These three individuals have done so much to help UWCK grow over the years. We will miss their knowledge, talents, and passion for what UWCK does in the community. We have been fortunate to have them deeply involved over the years, but we are excited for them to take a step back from their duties.”

In addition to bidding farewell to these outstanding individuals, UWCK is pleased to announce the appointment of new board members who are stepping up to make a difference. In 2023, Lori Hammeke joined the board, having previously served as a co-chair representing Larned in 2022. Lori’s engagement in the Larned community has been significant, from participating in Laundry Love to supporting tailgate fundraisers and various other programs.

Joining Lori is Nicole Henderson, realtor with MPIRE Realty Group and General Manager of Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, who also served as a co-chair in 2022, representing Hoisington. Nicci has been actively involved in everything from Reality U to tailgate fundraisers and assisting with sub-committees.

The United Way of Central Kansas expresses its gratitude for the contributions of outgoing board members and extends a warm welcome to the new members. The organization looks forward to their continued efforts in advancing UWCK’s mission to make a positive impact on the community.
