Mrs. Wollf and FCCLA kids

MACKSVILLE — On Nov. 5, the Macksville City Library hosted its very first Stuffie Sleepover. The South Central Kansas Library System helped sponsor the event with a $500 New Program grant.

SCKLS assists member libraries to provide excellent service to their communities, and grants like this enable libraries to try new things each year. (If you have an idea for a future fun new program, please let your librarian know!)

The program was also made possible with assistance from Mrs. Wolff’s Macksville High School FCCLA group. These amazing teens helped prep snacks, props, and games for the all kids who attended. They give back to their Community in so many positive ways!

We had 17 kids in attendance at the program. Most kids dressed in their pjs and brought along a stuffed animal, but it was not a requirement. We have some fun Stuffies at the library who were very happy to be adopted for the evening!

During the program, kids decorated name tags for their critters. Then, they played a variety of games with the FCCLA crew and took some adorable pictures with our photo props.

Their time at the library ended with a specially made trail mix snack and story time, featuring: The Snatchabook by Helen Docherty & Thomas Docherty. Each child received a book to keep, and then they said “Night Night” to their Critters.

After the hugs n kisses & “Night Night” wishes– all the kids  went home for bedtime, and their critters were ready for more fun!

First, we enjoyed popcorn and a movie (Paws, hooves, and fins up for TOY STORY!) Then, they had some pyramid building fun with our MHS FCCLA helpers.

Then, with a little help, critters went swimming in the sink and surfing (on the computer); they read books, played games, ate pizza, played with toys, made crafts, and even slipped out the book drop to peek outside in the cool night air!

Finally, it was time to settle down, read a Bedtime Story and go to sleep.

The next day, the Stuffies were available to pick up, with photos from the program for each family.
