Barton Community College’s Board of Trustees reviewed the contract renewal list for faculty during a Tuesday study session. Renewals will be approved at the April 13 business meeting.

Vice President Elaine Simmons said the college has received multiple applications to fill some of the vacant positions.

At this time, the administration anticipates 11 contracts will not be renewed, for various reasons:

Resignations

Shawgi Ahmed, Justin Burdick, Malia Sullivan, Charles Kinyon, Diane McReynolds

Retirements

Randell Allen, George Forst

Position changes

Kathryn Boeger, Heather Panning, Melissa Stevens

Deceased

Wade Morris

Tenure eligible

Three staff members are eligible to be granted tenure at the next contract offering.  They could be granted tenure or could be non-renewed based on recommendation and board approval.

The tenure-eligible faculty are Andrea Jenkins, Andrea Thompson, and Yuchen Wang Boswell.

The faculty contract renewal list also includes 18 individuals on the tenure track and 34 who are tenured.

Graduation ceremonies

Another topic discussed at the study session was the upcoming graduation ceremony at the Barton County campus. It is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the Gymnasium. Dean Angie Maddy said the format will be similar to last year’s commencement ceremony, keeping the program to 55 minutes.

The Fort Riley Campus commencement will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Manhattan. The Fort Leavenworth commencement will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, in the CGSC Auditorium at Fort Leavenworth.

Dean of Military Academic, Technical Education, and Outreach Programs Kurtis Teal said Post graduations will be open to the public. “We’re expecting standing room only.”
