STAFFORD — Sandy and I are getting excited about the Summer Reading Program. We are attending webinars, setting up times for different age groups, scheduling special guests and selecting great books and activities that will create memories for a lifetime. Put June 10th on your calendar for your kids and grandkids. PBS will be starting off the day with a visit to preschoolers. Sandy and I will start a Great Summer Long Adventure with the school-age children. We have an awesome book selected to share friendship, adventure, activities and a memorable activity.
Until then we have other adventures for all ages.
• Saturday Feb. 24th we learned how to make T-Shirt Quilts.
Shari Norman “Farm Girl Quilts” was the instructor for the day. With many examples of styles of T-shirt quilts, plus information on fabric and helpful hints. Did you know the cost of making a T-shirt quilt can cost up to $150 plus your T-shirts. Everyone was asked to bring two T-shirts to practice the technique on with the help of Shari. I believe everyone went home with lots of ideas, plus Shari’s card knowing they can call for more help if needed. A big thank you goes out to Shari Norman for providing this workshop at the Library.

Books read this week:
“No Greater Love” by Danielle Steel. What a great Historical Fiction/Romance novel. Opening with the maiden voyage of the Titanic, the greatest ship ever built. In one fatal, unforgettable night, everything changes. Will the Winfields and their six children survive?
“Christmas at the Amish Bakeshop” by Shelley Shepard Gray, a yummy story of Amish life and romance.
Almost done with Nora Roberts’, “Three Fates.” Part Historical Fiction (the sinking of the Lusitania and rediscovery of the Three Fates, little Greek God Statues), intrigue and modern day romance.
Did you know, through the Kansas Library Card you can take 500 courses in 50 subjects for free? This week we had a patron sign-up for the card so she could take a course on QuickBooks. If you are a life, long, learner and need easy access to free courses come see what the State Library has to offer.
The next board meeting will be March 6 at 6 p.m. It is scheduled a week early because of Spring Break.
