Great Bend Regional Hospital has added the expertise of general surgeon Dr. Gary Wilson to its medical staff. Dr. Wilson began his service with GBRH at the end of March.
He comes to Great Bend with more than two decades of experience as a transplant, vascular and general surgeon. Transplant surgery led him from Des Moines, Iowa, to Daytona Beach, Fla., nearly four years ago. But now, he and his wife, Chasity, along with their three young daughters, have moved to the heart of America.
“Florida wasn’t our cup of tea,” said Wilson, who is a graduate of Ohio State University College of Medicine. “The Midwest is a more family friendly atmosphere in which to raise our three daughters, ages 2 through 10.”
Dr. Wilson began his career in Philadelphia by helping to start a pancreas transplant program. He also began a laparoscopic donor program, while he was there. And, Wilson was instrumental in creating a liver and pancreas transplant program in San Antonio, Texas. Following a two-year stay there, he moved to Des Moines, Iowa where he performed mostly general surgeries.
The area’s newest general surgeon is located in the Heartland Regional Health Clinic, located on the second floor of the hospital. To make an appointment with Dr. Wilson, call 620-793-7520.
