STERLING — What started as a vision to gather high school music students from central Kansas for a one-day clinic and concert is now becoming a reality thanks to Sterling Band Director Larry Brownlee. Over 70 music students from 13 different high schools from central and western Kansas will be playing the Sterling College Honor Band Concert at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 in Culbertson Auditorium on the college campus.
Brownlee focused on inviting schools predominately from Central Kansas and those schools whose directors are former students of his. The schools participating in the Sterling College Honor Band Day include Sterling, Lyons, Hutchinson, Central Christian High School, Ellsworth, Hillsboro, Pretty Prairie, and South Haven as well as Hugoton and La Crosse.
Brownlee is acting as both the organizer and the conductor/director of the Honor Band.
The Honor Band Concert is open to the public with no admission charge. The concert will also be livestreamed on the Sterling College Music Facebook page.
