Statewide Silver Alert issued for Great Bend man

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office requested that the Kansas Bureau of Investigation issue a statewide Silver Alert for a man missing from Barton County.  

The whereabouts of 64-year-old Carl A. Whiting are unknown, and the public’s assistance is requested to help locate him. 

Whiting was last seen at approximately 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in western Barton County, near K-96.

Whiting is a white male, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 240 pounds. He has brown eyes and sandy hair. Whiting was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and possibly a yellow sweater. 

Additionally, he has dementia and has a history of walking away from his home. 

Anyone who sees Whiting or knows his whereabouts is asked to immediately contact the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, 620-793-1876. 

Update: This KBI Silver Alert was released to the Great Bend Tribune at 4:07 p.m. and it was canceled around 5:46 p.m. The KBI issued the following update: The Barton County Sheriff’s Office reported that Carl A. Whiting has been located and is now safe. The statewide silver alert has been canceled. Thank you for your assistance during the alert.
