Selected art by Rick Peters, Great Bend, will be on display through the month of November in the Fine Arts Room at the Great Bend Public Library.
According to the artist, much of his painting in past years addressed memories of family and childhood events. "These paintings were not direct observations," he said. "They often came off as riddles or ambiguous snapshots. Some of these works explored my mother’s struggles with physical and mental health, my father’s dedication to accountability in all things and his boyhood observations.
"I also explore take-offs of carnival sideshow banners. The banner format has recently made its way into my imaginary landscape painting experiments. Other recent (small) paintings take snippets of imagery from Sublime and Romantic landscape painting. The added human element suggests the effects of the passing of time, a crossing over."
The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular library hours.
