The Barton County Sheriff’s Office has been recovering stolen property over the last five days, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said Monday.
“We’ve cleared several burglaries from June and July,” he said, noting property has been recovered from burglaries in the Barton Hills area that were reported in mid-June and the first week of July.
On Thursday, July 31, officers recovered approximately $1,500 in stolen coins. Additional items recovered over the weekend include a metal detector worth about $500 and a 30-inch flat-screen television.
In addition, Bellendir said that on Friday morning the BCSO received a report that four or five radiators had been stolen from Kasselman Industrial Engines & Compressor Repair, located north of Great Bend at 187 North U.S. 281. On Monday, officers recovered some of the radiators, which Bellendir said were probably stolen for their value as scrap metal.
Theft of another radiator from NW 80 Ave. and NW 30 Road was reported Saturday. It has not been recovered.
A suspect is in one or more of these cases is in custody on unrelated charges, Bellendir said. He declined to identify the person until formal charges are filed on the cases.
“We still anticipate that we’re going to recover some more property,” Bellendir said, adding additional suspects may also be arrested. BCSO detectives continue to follow leads in this investigation.
