STAFFORD —“Children who are read to have a bigger vocabulary when they enter school” — 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.
Back to school for the kids! We enjoyed having them spend some Spring Break time with us. They kept the computer stations full and enjoyed crafts with Sandy.
Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. is the Recently Read book group. I’m looking forward to what new books and authors will be discussed. Some books I have been reading lately are:
From the State of Kansas Library Card
• Susan Wittig Albert - AKA Carolyn Keene, the pen name for several authors that wrote the classic Nancy Drew books! She is AKA Franklin W. Dixon, author of two Hardy Boy books. The series I’m reading of hers is the China Bayles Mystery series. The series revolves around China Bayles, an herb shop owner and sleuth. They have been very entertaining. How old must she be?? Google her, she is an interesting lady!
• Bryn Donovan - “Her Knight at the Museum.” Fantasy, mystery and romance all in one fun book.
From the Rotating Books at Nora’s Place
• Sara Brunsvold - “The Divine Proverb of Streusel.” This is a story about a young woman who has lost her trust in the men in her life. She returns to her roots on the family farm and finds a treasure of family history that helps her deal with relationships. Something I learned from this book – if times get rough and you seem stuck, get going by just doing the next thing that needs to be done. Just one thing, then another and another …
It’s going to be a busy week with Preschool Story Hour Monday, Recently Read on Tuesday, Knead to Know on Wednesday and Thursday new blinds on two sets of windows. Thanks to South Central Community Foundation and local support, we will be able to block the sun in the Children’s Room and by the circulation desk. We love the sun, except when it is blinding us. We will be excited to have beautiful remote controlled blinds to make our space more usable.
