This rendering by artist Whitney Hayden shows the plan for a new mural at 10th and Washington in Great Bend.

A special meet-and-greet with artist Whitney Hayden will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 10, at the future site of Great Bend’s newest mural. Guests will be able to see the progress on the mural on the corner of 10th and Washington at 2602 10th St. It is being installed by the Barton Arts Movement (BAM).

Known on social media as Murals by Whitney, the Houston, Texas, artist is somewhat TikTok famous, and has traveled a long way to install a unique color-melt mural featuring a “Welcome to Great Bend” message at a prominent intersection in our community, said Rachel Mawhirter with BAM.

This is just one of several new pieces of art installed around Barton County this summer, and one of over a dozen projects completed by the Barton Arts Movement since the group’s inception three years ago.
