Local LEOs respond to suicide threat
LEO incident suicide averted

Local law enforcement was dispatched to Broadway Avenue between Morton and Stone streets in Great Bend shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday following a report regarding an individual with suicidal intent. Both Great Bend Police Department and Barton County Sheriff’s Officer personnel were present at the scene.

Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark said that an “armed individual” had called dispatch to express his desire for “suicide by cop.” Officers arriving at the scene surrounded the subject’s vehicle on Broadway Street.

The individual was taken into custody without incident. Authorities are currently developing a treatment plan for the individual, Chief Haulmark said.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
