District Judge Steve Johnson, of Great Bend, has announced that he is seeking a third term for the 20th Judicial District, Division 2.

Judge Johnson was elected for his first term in the fall of 2012 and sworn into office in January 2013 by Chief Judge Mike Keeley, Division 3 of the District.  

Johnson earned his J.D. from Washburn School of Law in 1985, and a B.A. from Fort Hays State University. He was involved in the private practice of law for 27 years in Great Bend before taking the bench. In the fall of 2013, he attended the National Judicial College’s General Jurisdiction course in Reno, Nev. 

Johnson is an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend Noon Lions Club, Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas Bar Association, the Southwest Kansas Bar Association, and the Barton County Bar Association. 

Judge Johnson and his wife Jil have two grown children, Lyndsee and Mitch, who are both graduates of Great Bend High School and both live and work in the Kansas City metro area.

Johnson stated that he would consider it a privilege to continue serving the residents of Barton, Rice, Ellsworth, Stafford and Russell counties for another term. “I look forward to continuing my work on the bench by endeavoring to provide the citizens of the 20th Judicial District with the high standards they have come to expect from their judges.”
