Great Bend City Administrator Brandon Anderson is resigning. City officials confirmed he submitted his 30-day notice, as required by his employment agreement, on Tuesday and his last day will be Aug. 9. He is leaving for personal reasons.

Anderson said he has accepted another administrative job with the Garden City school district.

“Obviously, my intent was to stay longer but things have changed,” he said of his year in Great Bend. “It is a great community and I have loved working here.” He said he had a great staff.

Anderson was hired last year and began his duties in Great Bend on June 30, 2023.

A Caney, Kan., native, Anderson served as the city manager in Levelland, Texas, from 2006 until coming to Great Bend. He was appointed to the City Administrator position by Great Bend Mayor Cody Schmidt after a search spanning several months. Early in January 2023, the council tapped Building Official Logan Burns (now assistant city administrator) as the interim administrator to fill in as the search to replace Kendal Francis commenced. Francis, who came to Great Bend in July 2018, announced in early December 2022 that he was leaving to accept the city manager’s job in Hutchinson.
