The Gold Star Bike is on display at the education trailer of The Wall That Heals, at project of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.

The bike was donated to the VVMF by the American Gold Star Mothers in 2012.

“Gold Star” is a term used to identify family members who have lost a loved one in service to our nation. American Gold Star Mothers had been given the bike by Vietnam-era veteran Steve Davenport. In 1980, Davenport bought a Softail Custom Harley and a decade later decided to turn it into a unique piece of art, paying tribute to the mothers who lost sons to the Vietnam War. The names on the tank of the bike are painted in the style of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and honor 75 fallen service members, including Robert Cupp. Cupp and Davenport grew up together in Alexandria, Virginia, and remained friends until Cupp’s death in 1968. Davenport remained a loyal supporter of veterans until his death in 2018.
