Six Great Bend Middle School Band students were selected to participate in the Southwest Kansas Music Educators Middle Level Honor Band. The concert will take place at Dodge City Middle School on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The students had to record an audition consisting of a chromatic scale and a musical excerpt to earn a spot in the band. Band director Don Regehr commended these students for their effort in working on the audition music and being selected into the group.

The honor band will consist of approximately 70 students from the southwest area of the state. The students will work with a great Kansas music educator Bob Lee. He is a retired music educator; after a 33-year career in education, he is currently a school service specialist for Senseney Music in Wichita. He has also previously served as the SWKMEA High School Jazz chairperson on the staff of the Kansas Lions State and International Band Staff, High Plains Band Camp staff and membership chair for Kansas Bandmasters Association. “He is very well known and respected across the state,” Regehr said.
