The Albert Fire Department was called to two area fires Monday. The first was an abandoned structure fire in the Heizer city limits, at approximately 11:15 a.m. It was reported that a fire at an abandoned house spread to a neighbor’s house and a shed.

The Great Bend Fire Department was dispatched to provide mutal aid at 11:30 a.m., heading to the 600 block of Byers Avenue in Heizer.

After extinguishing that blaze, they were immediately called out to a rural address approximately 5 miles west of Heizer on K-96, where a barn was reported to be fully engulfed.

The Great Bend Fire Department was also called to the barn fire at approximately 2:25 p.m. Both departments were battling the blaze at approximately 4:06 p.m. Monday.

While second the fire was contained to the structure, the barn was completely destroyed in the blaze.

The cause of both fires is still under investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available.
