The initial phase of a U.S. 281 resurfacing project in Barton County, and eventually Stafford County, is expected to begin around Tuesday, Nov. 14, and be completed around Friday, Nov. 17.
The first phase of the Kansas Department of Transportation project involves a 2-inch mill/inlay in Barton County, from Southeast 30th Road to the south city limits of Great Bend. The length is about 2.5 miles.
The remaining part of the project, involving a chip seal and including U.S. 281 in Stafford County, will be done next year.
During the first phase, starting around Nov. 14 south of Great Bend, traffic will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists should be prepared to stop and face a delay of up to 15 minutes.
Venture Corp., of Great Bend, is the primary contractor for the eventual $1.57 million project.
