Summer Reading is over and we had some leftover energy that we used to rearrange the children’s room. We have made a fun corner for the littles and their parents to play with toys, build with blocks or read a flannelgraph story. We hope this will be a fun place to sit and make memories with your child.

The caves will be taken down after the end of July so be sure and come explore Nora’s Cavern this week. It has been a fun adventure for the kids of Stafford this summer. Sandy the cave guide has led hundreds through the caves.

Aug. 2 is a First Friday, set aside to celebrate Our Town of Stafford. Stafford has lots going for it in the past, present and future. Deanna Eisenhour and Jamie Downing will visit with us about how the murals were envisioned and what they are planning for the future of Stafford. Many outdoor games will be set up in the backyard of the library for young and young at heart. Jan Turner’s music will entertain you inside the library while you are chowing down on the free food. This has turned into a super event to end our season this year.  Plan to come, bring your kids and friends to Our Town of Stafford on Friday Aug. 2, from 6-8 p.m.

Free movies at your fingertips! Come see the new expansion of our DVD collection in the East Room of the library. Check out the titles while you are still at home by using our card catalog and typing in DVD to search.

We are excited at the variety of titles and want to thank Steve and Kathie Lawrence for the wonderful donation to enhance our collection.

We want to thank the Great Bend Tribune for the great job they are doing in putting in our article and pictures. We really look forward to the publication and its coverage of our local news.

We have had a donation of many new crime/mystery/drama books. Use our card catalog and type in titles, authors or subjects that you might be interested in and see what all we have to offer. Sandy has been busy adding DVDs, and books to our catalog and also in removing titles that have been withdrawn in the past, from our collections.  It’s like dishes and laundry - the card catalog is never done.

We are sad that Elroy’s Pizza has closed its doors after decades of wonderful food and service. Jennifer has always been generous in giving us prizes for our Book Challenge. It has been a family business through many years with Jennifer being the start of it, working as a waitress to convincing her Mom and Dad to buy it. Then it went to brother Jeff and his wife Nancy and then full circle, back to Jennifer and her husband Todd. Their kids grew up at Elroys and were always a welcoming committee. Great Food – Great Times! We wish Jennifer and Todd the best in their future endeavors!

Gerry is looking for ideas for fall and winter programming. Anyone interested in a book club, decorating, painting, paper crafts or other thoughts? We will contact Southwest services for Aging to come in November and help you find prescription medicines at the best price and answer other Medicare questions.

Always remember we are here to meet your needs whether it is a computer, printer, book, DVD, or just a friendly place to enjoy a cool moment. We are here for you.

The next board meeting is 6 p.m. on Aug. 14. Library hours are 8 a.m. to noon on Monday and 2-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
