A resurfacing project suspended last year for the winter will resume on U.S. 281 in Barton and Stafford counties on Friday, May 31.

The final phase of the Kansas Department of Transportation project involves a chip seal and pavement marking on the remaining 11 miles of the project. The work is expected to begin at Southeast 30th Road in Barton County and end at the K-19 junction south of Great  Bend in Stafford County.

The work is expected to be completed around June 12.

During the work, traffic will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car, and motorists should be prepared to slow down and stop and prepare for delays of up to 15 minutes.

Venture Corp., of Great Bend, is the primary contractor for the $1.57 million project.
