ELLINWOOD — An Ellinwood man was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor late Tuesday evening, according to a report from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.

The BCSO reported responding to a two-vehicle crash at mile marker 215 on U.S. 56, within the Ellinwood city limits, at approximately 10:27 p.m. Tuesday. A 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Michael Scheuerman, 49, Ellinwood, was traveling westbound on U.S. 56, when it swerved left of center into the eastbound lane and collided with the 2016 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Austin McAlonan, 29, Hays. The Kenworth then left the roadway on the south side and struck a utility pole. 

Scheuerman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed in the crash. McAlonan was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, the BCSO reported.

The BCSO reported that the highway was closed for several hours due to the crash scene.
