ELLINWOOD — Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic announced Tuesday morning that a groundbreaking ceremony date has been set and construction has begun.

The community is invited to attend the ceremony at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, at the construction site of the new hospital at the corner of U.S. 56 and Park Ave. on the west side of Ellinwood.  Parking will be available inside the fence of the construction site and along Park Ave.

Construction of the new hospital and clinic officially started Feb. 16 and is estimated to take approximately 18-24 months to complete.

“It feels like it has been a long time coming for the announcement of this event,” said Kile Magner, CEO. “We are overjoyed and proud of what our team has accomplished since Oct. 1, 2022, when we received notice from USDA that our project had been funded. Prior to October, we had been working on this project for nearly 18 months and so to get to this point, it definitely feels like an accomplishment.”

The ceremony will include guest speakers from: HFG Architecture, Wichita; McCownGordon Construction, construction manager, Wichita; and the United States Department of Agriculture.

“We wouldn’t be here today, announcing this groundbreaking here on this site, if it weren’t for those who truly helped us during this entire process,” said Kristy Rupe, Ellinwood Hospital Foundation director. “We all became a cohesive team, working day in and day out to get here and for that we are grateful. It just goes to show what can be accomplished when you have the opportunity to gather a group of positive leaders to do hard work.”
