Farmers Bank and Trust in Great Bend and the Great Bend Kiwanis Club have something in common. The Bank and the service organization have both supported Barton Community College’s Jack Kilby Science Day for eight years. Both came through again this year with $1,000 donations.
The bank’s donation helped provide funds for keynote speakers and other expenses.
“We are proud to support the endeavors of Jack Kilby Science Day through our partnership with Barton,” said Farmers Bank and Trust Vice President Tim Boxberger. “Science is very important and we need to promote that in the curriculum of the schools.”
Kiwanis President Rebecca Dudrey presented the club’s $1,000 donation to BCC Dean of Academics Dr. Rick Abel on Wednesday.
“Kiwanis has always been involved with Jack Kilby Science day,” Dudrey said. “We were one of the first groups that pushed for the event ... one of our members thought we should honor Jack Kilby in some way and one of the best ways is through helping children with science and getting them interested in science. We’re very proud that we’re still supporting the event and are very pleased with how much it has grown.”
