STAFFORD — Well I am loopier than usual when I’m writing this. I have been in my recliner all week-end (literally) trying to finish up a StoryWorks book. A WHAT? My daughter did a good thing several Mother’s Day ago and gave me a subscription to StoryWorks. Every week they send out a question to prompt your thoughts of what to write or you can Wing-It with your own thoughts. The end product will be a nice leather bound book with your inspiration.

It has been years now and I refuse to pay another year – so – it has to be done and ordered by August 30!

It is a family book that I have pillaged through all the family trees of both Jeff and I. I wanted to make it a concise book on all family with pictures to celebrate our heritage. I can guarantee it won’t be Miss Earle’s perfect – but it will have: family names, stories, dates, and pictures. Hopefully in time for Christmas! No Christmas Shopping for me!

My family has been great to give me info and pictures and at times, feed me.

The story could be about anything you want. If any of you are interested in pursuing putting a book together – right now I have the skills to help you.

I won’t swear how long I can keep them this fine tuned!

This could be a workshop or I could help individually. My daughter also gave me a nice picture scanner I could bring to the library. Bring your laptop and pictures and we’ll give it a go! I think it would be great to have a shelf of local family stories. One book I would love to have was written by the Thompson sisters that lived on Highway 50 on the way to Sylvia. I read it when I was little, at grandma’s house. That’s where I learned how hard it was for the pioneer children. We have a few local books already and I’m sure the Museum does too.

South Central Kansas Library System (SCKLS) has awarded Nora’s Place $500 to start a Memory Making Place for families. I have ordered the toys that will make Nora’s, “The Place to be!” They should come in before we start story hour for preschoolers, Sept. 9. We are planning on preschoolers from 10-11 a.m.. Please spread the word! It will be on Facebook and I will get some flyers made up. It is a service that has been asked for by young mothers so please come see What’s Happening at Nora’s Place!

We have had several Book Challenge papers turned in! If you haven’t they need to be in by Sept. 1 to win a prize.

Book Chats and Trivia Nights might be in our future. Sounds exciting, right?? Let’s stir up some interest and we’ll get some fun times rolling at Nora’s.
