Council to pick new administrator; Commission considers facade grants

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Wednesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.

The appointment of a new Great Bend city administrator will be on the agenda when the council meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/.The meeting will be recorded.  

Other agenda items include:

• A Rural Housing Incentive District for the Zarah Hotel apartments.

• Work sessions to discuss a $15 per hour minimum and quality of life.


County Commission

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes:

• A National Bike Month proclamation.

• A Mental Health Awareness Month proclamation.

• A National Prevention Week proclamation.

• A report on the Barton County  CORE Community program.

• Three Facade Improvement Grant applications.

• The KDOT Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program agreement.

• A vehicle purchase for the Health Department.

• A Kansas County Commissioners Association annual conference report.

Following the agenda meeting, the following appointments are scheduled:

• 10:15 a.m. –  program update with Brenda Kaiser, Human Resource Director.

• 10:30 a.m. – program updates with Amy Boxberger, Central Kansas Community Corrections director, and Marissa Woodmansee, Juvenile Services director.

• 10:45 a.m. – update to the Barton County  zoning regulations II and the official zoning map with Judy Goreham, environmental manager.

• 11:15 a.m. – regular business discussion with Matt Patzner, county administrator.
