Council looks at audit bids, commission marks Recovery Month

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Tuesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/. The meeting will be recorded. 

The agenda includes: 

• The recovery of testing cost in DUI cases that result in a conviction or diversion.

• Proposals for the city’s audit.

• An executive session to seek legal advice regarding leases at the The Great Bend Municipal Airport.

• An executive session to seek legal advice for pending legal matters.


County Commission

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the former JC Penney building, 1500 Kansas in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes:

•  A proclamation marking National Recovery Month 2023.

• The purchase of a backhoe attachment for the Solid Waste Department.

•  9:30 a.m. – financial update with Matt Patzner, county administrator.

•  9:45 a.m. – year end-outcomes and program update with Amy Boxberger, Central Kansas Community Corrections director.

•  10:15 a.m. – insurance bids and program update with Marissa Woodmansee, Juvenile Services director.

•  10:45 a.m. – request for proposals for a server upgrade project with Derreck Hollingshead, Information Technology director.

•  11 a.m. – disposition of vehicle with Karen Winkelman, health director.

•  11:15 a.m. – insurance claims relative to July 2023 storm damage with Patzner and Amy Miller, Emergency Risk Management director.

•  1:30 p.m. – funding request with Bill Lowry, interim superintendent, USD 112 Central Plains.

•  2:00 p.m. – Employee Engagement Committee with Commissioner Donna Zimmerman.

•  2:30 p.m. – regular business discussion with Patzner.
