Council to fill Ward 4 seat; commission to hear audit report

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Tuesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/. The meeting will be recorded. 

The agenda includes: 

• The appointment of a new Ward 4 council member.

• A rezoning request by Mark Bittle.

• A public hearing on an unsafe-dangerous structure at 301 Chestnut.

• The closure of a public parking lot for a vendor shopping event.

• The 2023 employee handbook revision. 


County Commission

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the former JC Penney building, 1500 Kansas in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes:

• Approval of added /abated/escaped/refunded taxes.

• A report on the 2022 county audit.

Following the agenda meeting, the following appointments are scheduled:

• 9:45 a.m.  – budgetary submissions with Amy Boxberger, CKCC director.

• 10:15 a.m. – mental health and incarceration costs, administrative details, with Karen Winkelman, public health director.

• 10:45 a.m. – regular business discussion with Matt Patzner, county administrator.

• 11:30 a.m. – Barton County Health Department Advisory Committee meeting.

• 1:30 p.m. –  Emergency Operations Center options with HVAC project engineers Orazem & Scalora Engineering of Wichita and County Personnel and county personnel.
