The Barton County Commission will meet as the Board of County Canvassers at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the Office of the County Clerk, 1500 Kansas. At that time, they will canvass the Tuesday, Aug. 1, USD 112 special election ballots.

The announcement of this was made as the commissioners met Tuesday morning. Here is a quick look at what else the Barton County Commission did:

• Approved a resolution clarifying county travel policies.

In July, 2022, the commission adopted a resolution that directed certain guidelines for approval of out-of-state travel.  However, current practices have shown that the directive is unnecessary and that the matter can be handled as an internal policy issue, said County Administrator Matt Patzner.

• Held a 20-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel. After reconvening in open session, no action was taken.

Following the agenda meeting, the following appointments were scheduled:

• 9:30 a.m. – regular business discussion with County Administrator Matt Patzner.

• 1:30 p.m. – executive session to discuss matters of attorney/client privilege.
