The City of Great Bend and the Great Bend Recreation Commission announced Friday that the KCAC Softball and Baseball Championship will no longer be held in Great Bend. The decision comes as a result of new leadership and revised strategic goals within the KCAC, which include selecting a location with more hotel accommodations and a more central position relative to the league’s schools, according to a statement issued by Christina Hayes, City of Great Bend CVB director.
“We are proud to have hosted the KCAC Softball and Baseball Championship in the past and are grateful for the support and enthusiasm from our community,” said Chris Umphres, Great Bend Rec Director. “While we are disappointed by the relocation, we understand the KCAC’s need to adapt to its evolving requirements.”
“The City of Great Bend and the Great Bend Recreation Commission remain committed to promoting and supporting sports and recreation events in our community,” the statement read. “We will continue to seek opportunities to bring exciting events and activities to Great Bend.”
“We extend our best wishes to the KCAC and look forward to potential future collaborations,” said Hayes. “Our community will continue to invite and offer a welcoming environment for athletes and visitors alike.”
