The Great Bend Tribune has learned that Central Kansas Community Corrections Director Amy Boxberger is no longer employed with Barton County.

Barton County Commission Chairman Shawn Hutchinson, District 3, citing privacy issues, confirmed to the Tribune Tuesday afternoon that Boxberger is no longer director of the agency that provides intensive supervision to adult felony offenders assigned in the 20th Judicial District, which includes Barton, Ellsworth, Rice, Russell and Stafford counties.

“The question is a matter of employee privacy. Even if I had a lot to say, I just cannot. I can confirm that Amy Boxberger is no longer employed by Barton County,” Hutchinson said in response to a Tribune inquiry.

In response to a similar inquiry Tuesday, Matt Patzner, Barton County administrator as well as finance and human resources director, confirmed Boxberger’s departure as of the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 17.

Earlier that day, the Commissioners had met in a pre-scheduled 1-hour executive session regarding non-elected personnel beginning at 1 p.m. Returning to open session, the executive session was extended for another 30 minutes. No action was taken immediately following the second executive session.

“All that I can say about the executive sessions is that they were related to non-elected personnel,” Patzner said. “I can say that her employment was terminated Friday afternoon.”

Patzner noted that operations of the agency will continue with the assistance of the Kansas Department of Corrections.

“We’ve been reaching out to the KDOC for guidance, trying to stay in contact with them as much as possible,” Patzner said. “Other than that, we are making every effort to fill the open position as quickly as we can.”
