Cross Winds of Kansas Bikers Church will sponsor the fifth annual Blessed Bike Rally on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 19, in Jack Kilby Square. There will also be a church service in the square the following morning.

This family-friendly gathering offers events for kids and adults throughout the day, and the splash pad south of the courthouse will be open. Lakin Avenue on the south side of the Barton County Courthouse will be closed to cars, with dozens of motorcycles on display there and “motorcycle games” going on.

Yvonne and Vic Link – also known as Sleepy and Diesel – from the church said they have organized the free event to give community members and visitors a positive experience with fun, fellowship and Christian music, not to mention a corn hole tournament.

The prayer tent opens at noon and bike blessings will be at 2 p.m.

Live music will be provided by Hammeke Revival, a local group with some of the same personnel as the rock group Homebrew, and New Beginnings, the Nebraska group formerly known as Forgiveness 490. There will also be a jam session where any area musicians or Christian bands that want to take the stage will be welcome, Victor Link said.

There will be scavenger hunts, vendors, free door prizes and a raffle drawing. The morning will start with a “Bug Run,” a 50-mile ride around the Cheyenne Bottoms. After the ride, the bike with the most bugs on its headlight is declared the winner.

A watermelon feed and live auction will start at 4:30.

Cross Winds of Kansas Bikers Church moves downtown

The Blessed Bike Rally comes a week after a major transition for the church. This Sunday, August. 13, marks the retirement of Pastor David Leroy at River of Life Foursquare Church at 1219 Main Street. Cross Winds of Kansas Bikers Church will become the official occupants of that downtown building. The Links are taking classes to become Foursquare Church pastors, so that Evangelical Pentecostal Christian denomination will continue at 1219 Main Street.

Coffee and donuts fellowship time starts at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays, with a worship service at 10:15 a.m.
