Barton County Voting and Polling locations for the Upcoming Nov. 7th Election

With Barton County voters casting their ballots for the general election Tuesday, Nov. 7, Election Officer Bev Schmeidler wanted to remind voters of the polling places, candidates and other election information.  

• “Polls will be open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. and voters are reminded to bring their photo ID with them,” she said. In addition, advance voting is available until noon Monday at the County Clerk’s Office at the temporary county office building (the former JC Penney building), 1500 Kansas in Great Bend (use the east entrance).

• “Mailed ballots can also be hand delivered to our office until 7 p.m. on Election Day or hand delivered to any polling location, Schmeidler said. They can also be mailed to her office, but must be postmarked on or before election day and received on or before the Friday following the election.

There are also two ballot drop-off boxes. They are located at:

• Central Kansas Community Corrections – 1208 Kansas, enter in the alley behind the Golden Belt Cinema 6, in Great Bend.

• Hoisington City Building – 109 E. 1st St., located in the alley next to the utility drop box, Hoisington

At both locations, driver-side drop-of and no postage is required.

City of Great Bend

Voters picking mayor and four council members, one from each ward.

Candidates include:

Mayor (elect 1), Davis A. Jimenez and Cody Lee Schmidt

Council Ward 1 (elect 1), Brent A. Cox and Alan Moeder

Council Ward 2 (elect 1), Jolene Biggs

Council Ward 3 (elect 1), Cory Urban

Council Ward 4 (elect 1), Natalie Towns, Rickee Maddox and Randolph S. Myers

Polling places:

• 1st Ward – Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 -18th, use east main entrance

• 2nd Ward – Prince of Peace St. Patrick’s Parish Center, 4100 Broadway

• 3rd Ward Grace Community Church, 210 McKinley, use north entrance

City of Hoisington

Voters picking mayor and four council members, one from each ward.

Candidates include:

Mayor (elect 1), Micah Ehler and Chris Kinman

Council Ward 1 (elect 1), E.D. Coles and Becky L. Steiner

Council Ward 2 (elect 1), Darren Reinert

Council Ward 3 (elect 1), James W. Morris and Mike Davis

Council Ward 4 (elect 1), no filings

Polling places:

• 1st and 2nd Wards – Hoisington Activity Center, 1200 Susank Rd. Hoisington, main entrance

• 3rd and 4th Wards – Hoisington Activity Center, main entrance


City of Claflin

Voters will pick a mayor and two council members. Candidates include: mayor , Mike Urban; and council, J.D. Linville, Dan R. Michaelis, Corey Liebl and Donald E. Hurtgen Jr.

Polling place is Immaculate Conception Parish Hall 110 E. Williamson, Claflin.


City of Pawnee Rock

Voters will pick a mayor and two council members. Candidates include: mayor W. Paul Umble; and council, only one filing, Lakin Dill.

The polling place is Faith Community Church Family Center 293 West Barton County Road, south entrance.

Other cities

There were no filings in: Albert (mayor and five council members); Galatia (mayor and five council members); Olmitz (mayor and two council members); and Susank (mayor and five council members). The polling place would be the Hoisington Activity Center, Arts and Crafts Room, 1200 Susank Rd. Hoisington, entrance on northeast side.


Barton Community College Trustees

The names of the candidates are Cole Schwarz, Dale E. Maneth, Gary G. Burke and Mike Johnson (elect three).

The polling places are:

• Albion, Eureka, Fairview, Grant, North Homestead, South Homestead, Union, Walnut-Albert, Walnut-Olmitz and Wheatland townships – Hoisington Activity Center, Arts and Crafts Room, 1200 Susank Rd. Hoisington, entrance on northeast side.

• Beaver, Cheyenne, Cleveland, Independent and Logan townships – Immaculate Conception Parish Hall 110 E. Williamson, Claflin.

• Comanche and Lakin townships – St. Joseph Parish Center, 110 West 2nd, Ellinwood

Ellinwood Hospital District Board of Trustees  

• The names of the candidates are Kathleen Hammeke Hines and Justin Lear (elect two).

The voting place for this election for all registered voters in The Ellinwood Hospital District is St. Joseph Parish Center, 110 West 2nd, Ellinwood

The Ellinwood Hospital District includes all of Lakin Township (including Ellinwood City) and all of Comanche Township except the west two tiers.


Unified School District 355 Board of Education – Ellinwood

• The names of the candidates are Debbie McCormick, Donald E. Anderson II, Jason C. Winget and John Sturn. USD 355 voters will be electing school board members by election at large in according with their Voting Plan (elect four).

Polling places include:

• Ellinwood City, and Comanche, Great Bend A, Lakin townships, and Stafford County voters in USD 355 – St. Joseph Parish Center, 110 West 2nd, Ellinwood


Unified School District 428 Board of Education – Great Bend

• The names of the candidates are Aaron Emerson, Karen E. Lindberg, Marcus Herrera, Randy Wetzel and Sara Williams. USD 428 voters will be electing school board members by election at large in accordance with their Voting Plan A (elect four).
