A brief burst of rain Thursday morning hampered the people cooking pancakes for the Business Appreciation Breakfast/Great Bend Chamber Coffee at the Barton County Fair.

Charles Atkinson, president of the Barton County Fair Association, welcomed fair-goers and thanked those who helped with the expansion and remodeling of the concession stand in Expo II. “It is 100 square feet bigger than it used to be,” he said.

Atkinson also thanked the 100+ People Who Care - Barton County group. “They provided the tables you’re sitting at right now.”

Dr. Sherri Brantley and her family provided the breakfast.

Four-H ambassadors Ailey Williams and Melody Braddy handled some of the announcements and drew numbers for door prizes. Winners received gift baskets from Barton County’s 4-H clubs.

There’s a lot going on this week, from exhibits to the carnivals and concerts.

The fair got underway on Wednesday with the check-in of all non-perishable exhibits, the rabbit show, poultry show, commercial exhibits and WEEE Entertainment carnival, as well as a 4-H Youth Rally. Thursday’s events included the Be Well Barton County Health Fair; 4-H swine show, horse halter classes and bucket calf shows; the carnival and free stage entertainment; and a Christian concert featuring Consumed By Fire.

Scheduled for Friday were the dairy goat show, sheep show and beef show; Belt Sander Drag Races; and a rock tribute concert. Saturday is Kids Day and Country Night, with Jadynce Jean in concert. Everything wraps up Sunday except for the clean-up on Monday, where volunteers are welcome.
