Golden Belt Wood Carvers announces class for beginners

Golden Belt Wood Carvers will offer a five-week beginners course, starting Aug. 18.

"If you’re ever thought wood carving looked fun or just wanted to give it a try, this is the place to start," member Barry Bowers said. "The class will be held on Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave.

Class participants will work on two projects as they learn basic carving safety, how to use a carving knife and how to finish a carving. The cost is $25, which includes wood for both projects, a sharpened carving knife and instruction.

Golden Belt Wood Carvers is an informal group of wood carvers from the area who meet from 7-9 p.m. every Thursday, except holidays, at the Senior Center. The group has carvers in all skill levels and welcomes guests.
