Preceptor Pi Chapter hosted the 92nd anniversary of the founding of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority on April 25. Members of the other active Chapter, Xi Delta Upsilon, and the members of the former Laureate Kappa and Theta Master Chapters were also in attendance.
The first Beta Sigma Phi chapter was founded in Abilene in 1931 by Walter W. Ross and has grown to over 180,000 members worldwide. Beta Sigma Phi is the largest organization of its kind in the world providing the social, cultural, and civic enrichment of its members. Membership is made up of women of all ages, usually beginning in their 20s or 30s and staying active for their entire lives, building friendships that last a lifetime.
After enjoying an Italian meal prepared by Joseph Smeragliuolo, Justin Engleman presented “Broadway Beauties,” the pictures, and stories of some of the historic old homes on Broadway.
After the program, the following women were recognized with a yellow rose, the symbol of the sorority: a small Chapter, Xi Delta Upsilon recognized all its members with a yellow rose; the Laureate Kappa Chapter gave a rose to Mary Bender who keeps all members connected, reminding them of their monthly luncheon; Preceptor Pi Chapter honored their President, Janis Link, with the Woman of the Year award and a yellow rose. Janis pledged sorority in 1986 and has been an active and generous member of her sorority chapter, her church and this community.
Jeri Brozek announced the 2023-24 theme as “Watch Beta Sigma Phi Bloom and Grow.”
The evening closed with all members joining in the Closing Ritual and Mizpah then staying for visiting and pictures.
