Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! It’s almost here – Friday is our big Summer Reading Kick-Off! Heartland Farms will be here with alpacas to meet and pet, Luna will be here, and we will have lots of fun lawn games. And don’t forget the most important part, registering for our summer reading program. We have a program for all ages, young and old, audio and printed books alike. Let reading take you on spectacular adventures while you track minutes for the chance to win some fabulous prizes!

Registration along with all our fun activities will be from 4-5:30 p.m. Friday, May 31. We also have our summer catalog out now, jam-packed with everything happening this summer. We have events for all ages, from movie nights and crafts to magicians and an end of the year Mario Party. If you want to see all the other exciting events we have planned then make sure to grab a catalog!

Next week is when all the fun begins with activities all week long for all ages. Starting on Monday, sign-ups for our Teen Book Crate open up. Visit our website to sign your teen up for a book box subscription without the fee. We also have another teen event to look forward to. Monday is made for movies, so we will be having a Movie Monday with our teens and watching a film that celebrates adventure. Join us in the Teen Spot to enjoy popcorn while we watch a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic, until things go dangerously awry when they run afoul of the wrong people.

Tuesday we will have Campfire Story Time and Fireside TweenScene simultaneously at 10:30 am. Everyone is welcome to join us for Campfire Story Time, but those looking for a taste of Teen programming, even if they are not quite teens, can join us for Fireside Tween Scene. Tech Tuesday will continue to be at 11 am for all your techy needs. Then, at 5:30 pm, 4th Graders to Adults can join us for a Cozy Craft night. This time we’ll be making Terrarium Pins - all the fun of having plants, with none of the work! Plus, you can take them with you wherever you go!

Wednesday marks our first Wonderful Wednesday of the summer. All summer long we will be offering a different exciting adventure for all ages to embark on here at the library. Next Wednesday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m., Dan Dan the Magic Man returns with “Magical Adventures,” an all-new, 45-minute show of magic, audience participation, and comedy that encourages kids to work together to unlock their imagination and embark on a journey. Come experience how reading can help transport you to countless adventures without leaving home. Then that evening, check out our first-ever Silent Book Club from 6-7 p.m. Want some time to yourself to just sit down & read? Come to Silent Book Club, where the only requirement to attend is that you just have to read. Readers Advisory upon request. Refreshments will be available, for adults 18 and up.

On Thursday, Luna is back! From 10:30 a.m. to noon grab a book, sit down, and read to Luna, our pet partner reading dog. Reading time counts toward your summer reading goal, and you could win a National Geographic Kids Magazine subscription if you log the most time with Luna through the summer. Genealogy Corner will continue this summer at its regular 11 am time every Thursday.
