Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! With the end of “spooky season” only a week away, we have some fun events coming up to help you celebrate.

Kids and teens who have the day off from school Friday and want something fun to do can stop by the library any time between 10:30 a.m .and 3:30 p.m. for our LEGO Engineering Build. Will you showcase the cozy colors of fall in your build or craft a bustling, futuristic metropolis? Let your imagination soar as you assemble your LEGO masterpiece! This event is for all ages, so adults are also welcome to let their creativity shine and contribute their own unique builds.

Friday afternoon teens grades 6-12 can come watch the next session of our Fall 2024 Tabletop Teens D&D Miniseries. Currently, our adventurers are crawling their way through a dungeon full of mimics and mystery! Will they survive, or will they be devoured by the monster they thought was a chest full of treasure? Come to the Teen Spot from 3:45-7 p.m. to enjoy the story and the shenanigans. Please note that this program runs after-hours, so we request that audience members plan on either leaving when the library closes at 5 p.m. or staying for the entirety of the event.

Join us next Tuesday, October 29 at 10:30 a.m. for our annual Halloween Carnival. Come in your favorite costume to make your way around our room and play fun games at the library! It’s a safe and warm place for little ones to trick or treat.

Local writers can join us for our Final Countdown meeting next Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. in anticipation of National Novel Writing Month, the yearly challenge for writers of all ages across the whole country. November is just around the corner, which means it’s almost time to get writing! Check in with the group as we share in each other’s excitement to finally dig in and start our novels.

Our weekly Tween Scene continues next Wednesday from 3:30-5 p.m. for our patrons in grades 3-5 who may feel like they’re too old for some of the Children’s activities but aren’t quite old enough to be considered teens yet. Each week tweens can come hang out in the Teen Spot and experience what it’s like to be a teen! We have all kinds of fun things to do, so be sure to stop by and check it out.

As October draws to a close next Thursday, we invite everyone to celebrate All Hallows’ Read with us. Dress up as your favorite book character and join us for some spooky treats and activities throughout the day!
