LARNED — The University of Kansas, Pawnee Valley Campus Auxiliary in Larned is known for its large membership, and for the many projects that it sponsors every year. November is a busy month for this group.
On Thursday, Nov. 15, the Larned Chamber of Commerce coffee hour will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Pawnee Valley Campus hospital to feature the Angel Tree. The Christmas tree will be in the lobby, adorned with paper angels. Each angel will give clothing sizes and ages of unnamed children. At that time, coffee hour participants can select an angel from the tree. The public is encouraged to come to the coffee. More details will be given at that time.
On Saturday, Nov. 17, the 11th Annual Gift Fair will again be at the Larned Community Center. The Fair will feature over 60 booths, and the favorite vendors from previous shows will be there. The show will include the Methodist Christmas candy and cookie table, pottery, paintings, jewelry, candles, children’s books and articles, Gift Shop items, candles, homemade jelly, and much more. The Auxiliary will be serving breakfast featuring their cinnamon rolls and a varied lunch menu. At that time, the public can also purchase donation tickets for the drawing.
Donation tickets can be purchased at the show, at the front desk, or from any Auxiliary member. The tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5, or 12 for $10. First prize is a full/queen Quilt Lover’s Knot design, second prize is a twin quilt (67 x 99 inch), a lap quilt is third, and fourth prize will be a basket filled with kitchen and household goods. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. at the Gift Fair. The winner need not be present to win.
The Luminary Season is now. This is an opportunity to remember your deceased loved ones with a lighting ceremony and with their names on the windows at the hospital during the holidays. All that is necessary is to pick up a luminary form or use your own paper, and send the names and $5 per name to Connie Fox, Box 437, to secure your loved ones’ names.
The Luminary Lighting ceremony and reading of the names will be at 7 p.m., Sunday evening Nov. 25, at the Pawnee Valley Campus hospital. The ceremony is a respectable, solemn, honorary service which will be deeply meaningful to all who attend.
