Ellinwood School/Community Library will be hosting author Becky Gillette for a book signing of “Jessie’s Corner, Something to Think About,” at 10 a.m. on Friday  at the Chamber Coffee. Becky shares with us:

Several years ago, I started reading the Bible backwards – in that I started in Revelation and read a chapter forward each day or so. I was amazed at the scriptures that I had previously overlooked because I was so used to seeing them as part of the story being told. I wrote down at least one scripture from each verse that really struck me and kept them in a file box.

In 2019, I began working as a reporter for a small weekly newspaper that didn’t have a religious column. It seemed that this might be a good place to use those scriptures that I had been gathering so I pulled out 12 random scriptures from my box and every week I would write a column called Jessie’s Corner.

I believe that God develops a relationship with each of us individually and it’s not my intent to sway anyone to this belief or that belief. The column turned out to be different perspectives on scriptures.

Some people are very happy in their beliefs, and this is great. Some people, however, are trying to decide what they believe about God and people and the universe. These columns are just some ideas that came to me – so I wrote them down and they were published in the paper (The Ellinwood Leader).

Last year, I decided to see about publishing them in a book and I started working with a fabulous crew out of Indiana, WestBow Press. The book has been sent to the printer and is now available at WestBow Press, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble – as well as at Everything Under the Son bookstore in Great Bend. The name of the book is “Jessie’s Corner, Something To Think About,” and I’m calling it a book of meditations rather than a devotional. If you (or someone you know) is trying to find a relationship with God, this could help spark some conversations.

I had so much fun writing these columns. I felt kind of like Erma Bombeck of Kansas! I invite you to check it out! I hope that you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
