HOISINGTON — Many activities are happening this fall at Hoisington Public Library!

Kansas Humanities speaker Diana Staresinic-Deane will present “Researching your Home and the People Who Lived There” at 10 a.m. Sept. 21. We look forward to this great presentation.

The library received a $500 grant to bring this speaker to Hoisington.

Former Great Bend resident Marty Keenan will be speaking at 10 a.m. on Oct. 26 about Great Bend’s spy. The title is “Joan Bondurant: Her life and Times.” Bondurant was born in Great Bend and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1937 as the valedictorian. The Office of Strategic Services asked her to work translating Japanese after World War II. Bondurant was then sent to India to translate Japanese documents and then to infiltrate the Indian Independence movement. She later wrote a book, “Conquest of Violence,” which is still considered an authoritative book on Gandhi’s methods.

These programs are offered free to the public.

Story Hour

Story Hour will begin in September with a bang! Fort Hays State University will bring the Planetarium to the library at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 19. This is a great opportunity to explore the solar system.

Story Hour will continue Sept. 27 through Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. on Fridays. Join us for stories and crafts.

Hoopla

Hoisington Public Library plans to continue offering Hoopla e-books next year, which is a very popular service. We also offer e-books through Libby and the Kansas State Library.

Karen La Pierre is the director at the Hoisington Public Library. She can be reached by email at library@hoisingtonks.org.
