Anyone grieving the loss of a loved one may want to consider the benefits of a support group.
Several such groups are listed on this page and they have similar objectives.
For example, the Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice Community Grief Support Group in Great Bend is led by people who understand what you’re going through with your grief, a spokesman said.
“They want to help you work through the grief, whether it is recent or in the past. You’ll gain access to valuable resources to help you recover from your loss and look forward to rebuilding your life.” This group meets from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays during five-week sessions. (In the past, sessions continued over eight weeks.) A new series starts March 25. Registration is required. For location and other information, call 620-792-8171 during office hours.
Broken Hearts Grief Group meets at 7 p.m. every Thursday at the First Street Church of God, 601 East First St. in Hoisington. This is also a slight time change from the previous 7:30 p.m. meetings. It is for all types of grief. Spokesman Donita Zamarripa said this is peer-on-peer support with other people who are going through the grieving process. It’s a safe space for people to talk. For questions call Zamarripa at 620-566-7384.
In Larned, the Moving Forward Grief Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m. every other Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, 916 Main St. Refreshments are provided. This month’s meetings will be March 10 and 24.
The purpose of the group is to provide a safe and supportive environment for participants to better understand the grief process, share experiences, and to alleviate the feeling of isolation.
“If you are experiencing grief after the loss of a loved one you are encouraged to attend,” sponsors say. “Today’s struggle leads to tomorrow’s strength. We understand and you are not alone.”
The group is sponsored by Beckwith Mortuary and the Ministerial Association of Pawnee County. For more information contact Beckwith Mortuary, 620-285-2121.
Mothers Only
Always with Me is a support group for grieving mothers. It meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Enter through the white door on the south side. Call 620-797-3527 with any questions.
Spokesperson Ruth Schiller explained the unique nature of this group for women who have lost a child. “It’s a safe space for grieving mothers to share thoughts, emotions and challenges with other women who walk the same path.”
She added, “We are not therapy, we’re not professional counselors. We are all just in it together.”
