During Garden Club’s  December meeting, Teresa Bachand introduced Kelly Moeder, owner of  Kelly’s Garden Sense to 11 members of the Great Bend Garden Club. Kelly is a certified Landscape Designer with over 20 years of experience. She offers her services to both homeowners and businesses. Her enthusiastic goal for her designs is to have them pop, be different, and be showy.

Although she also does full landscaping designs for homeowners and flower sculptures (for which her husband builds the frames) for both businesses and homeowners, she brought samples and spoke mostly of the flowers that she uses in her pot designs. Her stunning and creative designs are built with the seasons and various holidays in mind and she brought pots of colorful and curiously shaped plants which she grows and keeps in her greenhouses.

She brought as examples: several unusual varieties of kale, i.e. Osaka kale, Dino kale, and a flowering kale that comes in varying colors, a purple heart succulent, a tropical bromeliad, and  jungle geranium.

With her potted arrangements, if they are created for a specific season or holiday, she will store and care for them in her greenhouse during the off season. She will also come to the homes of her customers and fertilize and dead-head plants as needed. Club members appreciated her answering a variety of questions that they had concerning the flowers they were growing.

President Nancy Williams led a business meeting and the morning’s hostess was Fern Tompkins.  

The next meeting of Great Bend Garden Club will be at 10 a.m. on Jan. 19 at the Great Bend Senior Center meeting room with Alice Young giving the program and Carol Woodmansee serving as hostess. Visitors are welcome.
