Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! I am happy to announce that our fall catalog will be out by the time you are reading this. Our catalog will have all of our library events laid out from September through November.

We have some really fun stuff coming up, like the Smokey Bear Reading Challenge, Five Nights at Freddy’s Escape Room, Dinovember, and much much more. Grab a catalog and start marking your calendar now!

As far as events this week go, on Thursday, Aug. 15 we have Manga and Anime Club. Since our club falls on the second day of school, we are keeping things light and fun with a movie and some popcorn.

This time we will be watching the popular new anime movie “Suzume.” “A modern action adventure road story where a 17-year-old girl named Suzume helps a mysterious young man close doors from the other side that are releasing disasters all over in Japan.” – IMBD. Use the code @gbmanga in the Remind app, text it to 81010 (standard message rates apply), or visit remind.com/join/gbmanga to receive updates on meetings and other club-related events. We have tons of fun planned for the Manga and Anime Club this fall.

Tuesday the 20th is our next Open Book Club Meeting. This month’s book is “When Women Were Dragons” by Kelly Barnhill, a historical fantasy set in a time after an event known as the mass dragoning where women all over the world suddenly turned into mighty dragons and took to the skies. But not all women sprouted mighty wings and talons – so what of those left behind, like our protagonist Alex Green, a young girl who is left to wonder why her aunt, but not her mother or her, turned into dragons and where they went? Unfortunately, these kinds of questions are taboo in this new society. Now forced into silence, Alex must face the consequences of the mass dragoning, an event society is bent on trying to erase altogether. If you would like to join in on the discussion, you can grab a copy at the front desk.
