A slamming door over 130 years ago continues to resonate today. Sterling College Theatre will present a modern continuation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play A Doll’s House by playwright Lucas Hnath entitled A Doll’s House Part Two. The show will be presented on the stage of Culbertson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2,

The door slam at the end of Ibsen’s original play which premiered in 1879 is still felt today. His classic play ends with the main character of Nora, a strong-minded wife and mother leaving her family to create a life of her own. Hnath’s new play takes a look at the same characters 15 years later.

Taking on the iconic role of Nora Helmer is junior Mary Little from Hutchinson. Opposite her, Noah Svaty will portray Torvald Helmer, Nora’s estranged husband. The two characters in the play delve into the nuanced emotions of love, regret, and reconciliation.

Mariana Inchauriga, sophomore from Hutchinson, plays the role of Anne Marie, the loyal and conflicted housekeeper who has witnessed the family’s struggles firsthand. Sterling College senior from Las Vegas, Nev., Morgan Pellegrino rounds out the cast as Emmy, Nora and Torvald’s daughter, whose traditional values and determination add fresh tension to the story.

Directed by former Sterling High School Theatre teacher Betsy Dutton, A Doll’s House, Part Two revisits the Helmer household 15 years after Nora’s dramatic exit, exploring themes of independence, identity, and family with Hnath’s signature sharp wit and contemporary edge. This intimate four-person drama is mixed with moments of comedy and offers a captivating and thought-provoking evening of theatre for audiences of all backgrounds.

The show will be presented in an intimate setting with the audience seated on the stage with the actors and action. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Because of the intimate seating arrangements and only 75 seats being available for each performance, reservations are suggested. Tickets are available at www.sterling.edu/arts. Tickets will also be available at the door before each performance.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a bold reimagining of one of theatre’s most iconic stories, brought to life by the talented students of Sterling College Theatre.
